These days, it seems as if it takes more and more to build a business than it ever did before. But then again, how much must it have taken back in the old days of business building? Have the basic needs of humanity changed any over time? And have the methods through which we influence one another actually changed to any substantial extent? The act of making a sale is the same as it has always been, even if the methods that we employ have changed a great deal with the years. And it is all about the exchange of confidence, as we trade a fear or an insecurity for some item or service which makes our lives seem a little bit better for a time. Building a business from the ground up has never been easy- nowadays, we can simply analyze it with more precision than we ever could before.
Consider the notion that a business has always been about linking the initial materials to the end user through a sort of chain. From the mines to the factories, from the factories to the stores or warehouses, and from those depots to the hands, homes and businesses of the customers a product goes. This is the life cycle that every business ultimately ends up creating and supporting. While the wagons and trains of early years have been replaced by airplanes and ships nowadays, and the Internet has taken over a lot of the lead generating, these changes are superficial on their best day.
What has the Internet really changed about building a business? It is still a matter of setting up systems, advertising to get paying customers, and working on making sure that those paying customers are happy enough with what they receive that they are going to stay paying customers for a very long time (and become the best sort of advertising). It has never been all that easy to build a business from the ground up. But no matter what age in which you may practice the entrepreneurial art, it is an incredibly satisfying endeavor to accomplish.
