A lot of people are of the silly impression that if they are going to do anything constructive with their saving activities, they have got to try and save on absolutely everything that they buy. And while getting a good deal is always a good idea, no matter what you are buying, it is a completely futile effort to try and save on everything. While you theoretically could chop down what you spend to the level of “almost nothing,” the overwhelming likelihood is that you are not really going to do that, no matter what you say you are going to do. And when a person tries and fails, this only makes them feel worse than they would if they had not even made the effort in the first place. So what it ultimately comes down to is, in order to save money in a real way, you need to save on just one thing, at least to start.
You can try and fight your own spending habits if you want to. But when it comes right down to it, you are ultimately going to fail miserably if you attempt to do this. There is really no person alive who can actually change everything about their lives at one time. They will ultimately either fail, get frustrated and give up, or sit around and complain about how powerless they feel about their lives in general. If you want to succeed, you are going to have to pick just one thing to save on, and work on saving when it comes to just that thing.
Once you have selected the one thing that you are wanting to save on, you have got to absolutely slash your spending on that thing with a level of relentlessness that is usually reserved for Jason Voorhees. If there is any way that you can trim down another dollar or two, when it comes to the one thing you are striving to save on, do it. But when you first start to look, you will probably find that you can at least cut it in half.
