We live in a world in which some people just seem to think that the whole of the planet has it in for them. If those people ever did take a lick of responsibility for their own lives, it is not evident when you talk to them. To a person like that, the world is full of nothing more than bad things which happen to them, while they struggle through it with no solutions but with lots of complaints. To a person like that, the world has done everything to them, and they have no power to do anything to make things better. Needless to say, they are a pain to talk to, especially about money.
Unfortunately, this victim mindset has come about in a lot of different areas in both our society and our economy. For far too many people, the world is full of things such as unemployment which merely happens to them, but over which they have no control. Perhaps no one ever told them that they could try learning some new skills, so as to be a better employee and a better interviewee. But to a person who thinks that way, there is no such thing as a solution. Complaining is just so much easier to do.
But when it comes down to taking charge of society, the victims have no idea what to do. To them, “the economy” is just a group of people who are making all of the decisions for the rest of us. In a situation like that, nobody but the small group of elites who are ostensibly running everything would have any sort of power over anything. We need to drop the victim mentality we have.
